        Anesthesia Patient
          Safety Foundation
The pioneer organization dedicated to assuring patient safety. Formed
in 1985 with the mission that "no patient shall be harmed from
anesthesia," the APSF has been the leader in the proactive, successful
efforts to dramatically improve the safety of anesthesia administration
and reduce adverse events (quote from website). The first chapter of
the APSF anesthesia machine workbook was developed with APSF funding.
The APSF workbook will be presented at the APSF booth at the upcoming
annual ASA meeting in San Francisco (10/2003).

          The American Society
          of Anesthesiologists
The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) is an educational, research
and scientific association of physicians organized to raise and maintain
the standards of the medical practice of anesthesiology and improve
the care of the patient (quote from website). The VAM was reviewed in
the journal "Anesthesiology" and received two awards at the
          2001 ASA meeting.

          Society for Simulation in Healthcare
The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSIH) is an international society that brings together researchers and healthcare providers that work in the field of simulation in healthcare.   SSIH is one of the fastest growing societies and its Medline-indexed journal Simulation in Healthcare has strong growth in circulation and impact.

          Technology in Anesthesia
An abstract about the VAM was awarded "outstanding abstract"
at the 2000 STA meeting. Later versions of the VAM have been presented
at the annual 2001 and 2002 STA meetings.

          American Society
          of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians
The ASATT is an educational organization whose goal is to provide opportunities
for professional development and continuing education to Anesthesia
Technicians and Technologists with a commitment to maintaining the highest

A goal of the The American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologists is
to establish, evaluate and maintain the highest standards in the practice
of veterinary anesthesiology by promoting establishment of educational
facilities and clinical and research training in veterinary anesthesiology
at the under-graduate and post-doctoral levels (quote from website).
University of Florida Academic Health Center-wide Simulation in Healthcare web site
This web site acts as a portal that identifies in a unifying, inclusive and consistent approach, UF simulation in healthcare personnel, activities, resources, services, projects and publications of diverse entities primarily at the UF Academic Health Center but also outside the UF Academic Health Center.
University of Florida Department of Anesthesiology
The University of Florida Department of Anesthesiology has over the last quarter century, established a tradition of development of simulation technology.  It is the home where the Human Patient Simulator (HPS) mannequin patient simulator and the Virtual Anesthesia Machine Simulation portfolio were conceived.  The Department also runs the Center for Simulation, Safety & Advanced Learning Technology (CSSALT).
