At the October 2004 ASA meeting, the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF) awarded a research grant to the VAM team to develop and evaluate a Transparent Reality simulation of the anesthesia machine pre-use check and an accompanying set of structured exercises that will constitute Chapter 2 of the APSF Anesthesia Machine Workbook. We will start work on the pre-use check in January 2005 and anticipate having the simulation and workbook ready by the 2005 ASA meeting.
We will post preliminary versions of the simulation as it becomes available
for review and invite comment from all interested parties. To facilitate
input from all and an open discourse, we are adding a section on the
anesthesia machine pre-use check on the VAM
