Added the following modifications suggested by Dr. Olympio's review in May 2002 issue of Anesthesiology (p 1281):
Reduced minimum set VT from 500 to 50 mL (also modeled minimum ventilator flow as seen on Ohmeda 7800 series ventilators.) The sequence of low oxygen supply pressure alarm, nitrous oxide cutoff, and then oxygen cutoff clarified.
Added larger airway pressure gauge with readable numbers (click on the gauge icon to zoom in and out). APL valve is larger to clarify function as a variable pressure threshold, not variable orifice device.
Pipeline O2 pressure gauge drops during O2 flush; no drop in cylinder O2 pressure gauge.
Ventilator pressure relief valve closes when ventilator is activated against a selector valve set to manual ventilation mode.
VAM 8.2 March 2002 Dutch, French, German, and Spanish translations of VAM simulation legends added. ISO color code option added. Automatic change in gas color code based on selected language.
VFGS January 2002 Virtual Fabius GS simulation link added to website

VAM 8.0 October 2001 Inspiratory Pressure Limit added. Ventilator cycle indicator added. Graphical and mathematical models of gas flows introduced to drive animation. Picture pops up in picture window when cursor placed on corresponding icon.
VAM 7.1 June 2001 A bellows tear was modeled. Program optimized for faster download. More pictures added. Some graphical improvements.
VAM 7.0 March 2001 Implemented with Director 8.0. Ventilator controls added. Gradual introduction and washout of gasses added. Differential flowrates added to reflect internal relative changes. Pictures of actual Ohmeda Modulus II anesthesia machine components added.
VAM 6.0 November 2000 Bags, bellows, and lungs respond more realistically to changes in flowrates. Flowmeters are semi-quantitatively modeled, including more detail in the hypoxic safeguard behavior. Volumetric response of oxygen flush to bags, bellows, and lungs modeled. Behavior added to checkvalves. Graphical improvements added, including better representation of the common gas outlet, gauges, and valves.
VAM 5.1 August 2000 Modifications to nitrous and oxygen gas supply modules: Pressure regulators added. Placement of cylinder pressure gauges and check valves modified to reflect the most common arrangement. Gas molecules stationary if the corresponding gas is not flowing.
VAM 5.0 May 2000 Gradual onset of gas introduced into the system. Speed control modified to follow mouse movements. CO2 shown in manual ventilation.
VAM 4.3
Gas control knobs color-coded. Minimal compulsory 200 cc/min. O2 flow shown. Bellows drive gas valves controlled by mathematical equations instead of tweening.
VAM 4.2
Scavenging bag animated with mathematical manipulation instead of tweening. Isoflurane fill cap leak shown.
VAM 4.1 Bellows drive gas shown during manual ventilation. The gas scavenging system was changed to show a smoother and more consistent pressure relief and vacuum relief scenarios.
VAM 4.0 O2 disconnect alarm sound added. A help page was created and a link to it was added.
VAM 3.4 O2 flush modified to more closely match a real system.
VAM 3.3 Improved the animation of the bellows and positive pressure relief valve. Resulting animation was smoother, faster and easier to incorporate into an interrelated system.
