Using the 2 compartment deterministic simulation
A constant FRACTION is eliminated per unit time in a first order PK model independent of dose

Show that the concentration plot for a bolus is the mirror of one for a constant infusion. Adding the two theoretically produces a step input in drug concentration

The half-time is the time for an initial drug concentration to be halved. There is nothing magic about the fraction half. We could also use 1/3 time or any other fraction.
A drug that is administered slowly at the maintenance rate takes a long time to reach steady state.
